Stakeholder engagement 2022 survey results
One of the ways we measure our performance against our strategic ambitions is through feedback from our stakeholders. The Authority undertook an independent stakeholder perception survey in 2018, which informed our stakeholder engagement approach. The survey was repeated this year, to compare themes from 2018 to 2022, and identify what we can do to further strengthen our engagement.
The stakeholder perception survey 2022 highlighted a number of areas of improvement since 2018, and also identified opportunities for growth in our communication and engagement with stakeholders and consumers.
In 2022, stakeholders identified five key themes for the Authority to address in line with our strategic ambitions:
- Provide greater regulatory certainty
- Building capability and capacity
- Strong future focus
- Greater collaboration with the industry
- Increased pragmatism.
We would like to thank the participants for sharing their feedback. We are working through actions to address feedback, including:
- Updating stakeholder engagement and consultation guidance and toolkits, and training for staff
- Seeking to build capability through the 2022/23 levy consultation(external link)
- Communicating more clearly each step of the policy process
- Communicating more clearly our strategy for the sector
- Increasing participation in sector events
- Demonstrating delivery against our strategic objective more clearly

In addition to the stakeholder perception survey, as part of our Annual Report for the 2021/22 financial year, we commission independent assessments of the Authority’s four impact measures across three strategic ambitions (consumer centricity, trust and confidence, and low-emissions energy), and industry and consumer perception surveys across all five strategic ambitions and our statutory objective (competition, reliability, and efficiency).
The independent assessments consider how the Authority incorporates consumer needs into our decision-making processes, how the material we produce promotes trust and confidence in the Authority and the wider sector, and how the Authority unlocks the potential for more renewable generation. The industry and consumer perception surveys cover a wide range of topics across the electricity industry, including the ability of the electricity system to adapt to change, system reliability and operational efficiency, and competitiveness of various electricity markets. The results and related reports are published with our Annual Report each year.
