Post- implementation review of dispatchable demand
The Authority has completed a post-implementation review of dispatchable demand. Dispatchable demand went live on 15 May 2014.
The objective of the dispatchable demand project was to develop a regime to enable demand-side participants to participate more fully in the wholesale electricity market.
Dispatchable demand project history
The purpose of a post-implementation review is to evaluate an initiative against its expected outcomes. From the Authority’s perspective, this enables learning about how regulatory decisions–or decisions not to regulate–are affecting the sector and whether further policy action is required.
The post-implementation review of dispatchable demand found that the low-uptake of the scheme means the benefits are likely to have fallen short of implementation costs, and future benefits are unlikely to be material without refinement to encourage more participation in the scheme.
