Decision paper on generation fault ride through
We have decided to amend the Code to include fault ride through standards for generating units.
The key elements of the standards are:
- generators connected to a network must ensure their assets remain stable and connected within defined over and under voltage no-trip zones during and immediately after a.c. transmission faults
- generators must ensure their assets remain stable and connected within a defined over voltage no-trip zone during and immediately after faults on the high voltage direct current (HVDC) link
- generators must ensure their assets generate reactive current to oppose changes in voltage that occur during and immediately after a.c. transmission faults.
The Code amendment will deliver long-term benefits to consumers by contributing to the reliable supply of electricity to consumers and improving the efficient operation of the electricity industry.
We have published the Gazette notice, a paper outlining the reasons for this decision and a summary of the submissions received. The amendment will come into force on 24 November 2016.
