    TPM final decision briefing

    The Authority held an online briefing for stakeholders about the new TPM on 14 April 2022.

    Following the conclusion of a significant structural reform and consultation process, the Electricity Authority has decided to adopt a new Transmission Pricing Methodology (TPM). The new TPM reflects years of review, analysis and valuable input from across the sector.

    TPM consultation briefing sessions

    08 Oct – 02 Dec 2021  

     

    Following the Government’s 18 October announcement that Auckland will remain at Covid alert level 3 for at least a further two weeks, the Authority has moved the Auckland and Whangarei regional information sessions online. This 3 November online session will also be open to anyone who wishes to attend an online TPM information session. Other regional sessions will be held in person if COVID alert levels allow. If COVID alert levels do not allow face-to-face events, a further online session may be scheduled.

    The Authority will also hold additional online information sharing sessions on how the residual charge applies to batteries and similar storage, indicative pricing and case studies, and the CBA.

    The Authority is keen to discuss its TPM proposal with stakeholders and has planned six regional workshops during the consultation period.

    These workshops are an opportunity to hear directly from the Authority about the proposal and for you to discuss the content with the Authority and other stakeholders before making  a formal submission.

    On 14 August 2014, we made a presentation titled “Distributed Generation and the Avoided Cost of Transmission arrangements” to the Independent Electricity Generators Association.     Transmission pricing methodology: Beneficiaries-pay working paper forum

    The Authority is planning to release its transmission pricing methodology: Beneficiaries-pay working paper on 21 January 2014. The Authority will provide an overview of the working paper at a forum to be held in Wellington on 29 January 2014

    The forum will also provide an opportunity for interested parties to clarify any details of the working paper with the Authority.

    Where:  James Cook Hotel Grand Chancellor, 147 The Terrace, Wellington (please note this is a new venue) 

    When:  It is anticipated that the forum will commence at 10.00 am.

    New Zealand Wind Energy Association presentation

    We were invited to present to NZWEA about the October 2012 Issues paper.

    The New Zealand Wind Energy Association (NZWEA) held a workshop in Auckland on 20 February 2013 to discuss the impacts of our TPM proposal on embedded generation.

    October 2012 Issues Paper: Q&A workshop

    We held a questions and answers workshop on 7 February 2013. The workshop provided an opportunity for interested parties to seek clarification on aspects of our published TPM proposal.

    October 2012 Issues Paper: Modelling Workshop

    We held a modelling workshop about its TPM proposal on Tuesday, 4 December 2012 in Auckland.

    The workshop consisted of two sessions:

    1. details of the TPM proposal including the SPD method, design issues and RCPI application; and
    2. direct incidence of charges and generator pass through.

    The Transmission Pricing Advisory Group (TPAG) held a briefing to outline its Discussion Paper on Transmission Pricing on Wednesday 29 June 2011.

    The briefing presented TPAG's analysis in advance of participants finalising their submissions on the discussion paper.
