    At this meeting, James Stevenson-Wallace and Andrew Doube welcomed the new IPAG members, the new members presented on key challenges and opportunities in the sector, and John Hancock gave a refresher on previous IPAG projects. The South Island Distribution Group (SIDG) provided an update on new operating models, Concept Consulting continued their presentation on electricity supply arrangements for EVs and Transpower gave an update on the development of flexibility services and platform providers.     At the meeting, Concept Consulting presented their paper on electricity supply arrangements for electric vehicles, Habitat Energy presented the evolution of flexibility markets overseas, Allan Millar presented ANSA’s hosting capacity and real-time distribution pricing roadmap, and Transpower gave an update on the development of flexibility services and platform providers. Authority staff also joined the meeting to further discuss the feedback received from stakeholders on the discussion paper “updating regulatory settings for distribution networks” and the work the Market Development Advisory Group (MDAG) are doing on demand side flexibility.     IPAG discussed the transition of ripple control into flexibility markets, Authority staff updated IPAG on the initial feedback received in response to the discussion paper “Updating the regulatory settings for distribution markets”, and IPAG discussed demand side engagement with Authority staff and some members from the Market Development Advisory Group. Transpower also presented on how to ensure the reliability of flexibility services, findings from their international review of Distribution System Operator models, and Transpower’s Grid Support Contract design guidelines.     IPAG discussed the future work programme and how IPAG will support the Authority’s work on updating the regulatory settings for distribution networks. Synergies with the work being done by the Market Development Advisory Group (MDAG) were also discussed. The Commerce Commission presented the findings from submissions to their open letter seeking views on the emerging issues for electricity networks. Transpower also presented the requirements of the system operator to have visibility over distributed energy resources and Transpower’s work developing procurement arrangements to tender flexibility services.     The IPAG held its 28th meeting on 19 May 2021. The Electricity Authority’s Chair, Dr Nicki Crauford, joined for part of the meeting to discuss IPAG’s history and work going forward. The IPAG also met with Contact Energy, Simply Energy, Enel X, solarZero, Transpower, and Vector to discuss IPAG’s draft recommendations memo on the Transpower DR programme. Read More

    The IPAG held its 27th meeting on 24 March 2021. The IPAG heard from Wellington Electricity regarding their trials and what they have learnt as well as their current work. The IPAG also met with Transpower to discuss cost allocation. The meeting finished with a discussion on the draft IPAG recommendations memo to the Authority and slide pack. Read More

    The IPAG held its 26th meeting on 24 February 2021. The IPAG heard from Transpower regarding their amendments to the Demand Response (DR) protocol since the last meeting.
