    The IPAG held its 24th meeting on the 1st of December at the Electricity Authority’s offices in Wellington. The IPAG started to consider how it would respond to questions from the Authority regarding its review of Transpower’s demand response (DR) programme. The Commerce Commission led a discussion on the potential application of cost allocation and related cost requirements to Transpower and Transpower briefed the IPAG on what its Distributed Energy Resource Management (DERM) programme may be like in Regulatory Control Period 3 (RCP3).     The IPAG heard from a range of demand response stakeholders. SolarCity, Enel X, and Contact Energy discussed their experiences and views of Transpower’s demand response programme. The IPAG considered the results of the Authority’s survey of distribution businesses on their use of flexibility services. The IPAG discussed the incentives for distribution businesses to use flexibility services and then Transpower provided another briefing on its demand response programme and distributed energy resource management.     The IPAG advanced and refined it’s thinking on its current Demand Response review. IPAG also attended a portion of the Authority Boards strategy day – which specifically focused on innovation in the electricity sector. IPAG finished the day by talking with MBIE about the coordination of New Zealand’s efforts to accelerate renewable energy and energy efficiency. This meeting was held via Zoom. Read More

    The IPAG held their 21st meeting on the 22nd of July at the Electricity Authority’s offices in Wellington. The IPAG furthered its work towards developing a summary of the current state of Demand Response and wider flexibility mechanisms available in New Zealand. Staff from both Transpower and the Commerce Commission attended a portion of the meeting. Read More

    The IPAG held their 19th meeting on the 19th of February 2020 at the Electricity Authority’s offices in Wellington. The IPAG discussed and formalised approaches for a review into Demand Response (DR) functions in New Zealand. The IPAG also spent time developing its submission to MBIE’s Accelerating renewable energy and energy efficiency consultation. Read More
