In the wake of the devastation of cyclone Gabrielle, the Authority remains committed to the continuation of its regulatory objectives.

The Authority expects all participants to continue to comply with their obligations under the Code as it acknowledges the obstacles to the urgent work needed to rebuild and reconnect electricity services – while maintaining existing reliability in other parts of the country.

Participants unable to fulfil Code requirements, should contact the Authority for further guidance or clarity of their situation. It cannot be assumed that the impacts of the cyclone will necessarily provide a justification for a failure to comply with the Code.

The Authority urges participants to contact it as soon as possible if they are having issues with meeting their compliance obligations. The Authority’s compliance team can be contacted at compliance@ea.govt.nz.

Participants are also reminded of the provisions of the Consumer Care Guidelines(external link) to minimise further harm to domestic consumers.
