Authority's review of competition in the wholesale market is taking shape

At Downstream 2021, the Authority announced its review of competition in the wholesale market for the period 2018 to early 2021.

Several key events have unfolded in recent years, for example the 2018 Pohokura outage, the conclusion of negotiations of the contract for supply at Tiwai and the 2021 dry year event, which have coincided with elevated prices for extended periods.

The review is progressing at pace and more detail on it is available on the Authority’s website in a proactively released briefing to the Minister of Energy and Resources, the Hon Dr Megan Woods. Proactively releasing this briefing ensures the sector has visibility of the review, how it is progressing and what it will include.

The findings of the review will be considered by the Authority’s Board in September and publicly released shortly after.
