Final determination of the causer of the 30 October 2020 under-frequency event

Earlier this year we consulted on our draft determination for the 30 October 2020 under frequency event. No submissions were received.
 
We have finalised the determination that Genesis Energy Limited, is the causer of the under-frequency event on 30 October 2020 at 01:07 hours. The reasons for our determination are available on our website.
 
If a substantially affected participant would like to dispute the final determination, they can provide a written notice to the Rulings Panel within 10 business days after the publication of this decision. Please send notices to the Rulings Panel at Registrar.RulingsPanel@ea.govt.nz by 5pm on 22 June 2021.

Closure of eTrading investigation

The Authority has discontinued the following investigation into alleged breaches of the Electricity Industry Participation Code 2010.
  • eTrading was alleged to have breached clauses 16A.13(1) and 15.38(1) of the Electricity Industry Participation Code 2010 when it failed to provide an audit report to the Authority by 1 November 2019 and consequently their certification lapsed on 1 January 2020.

Open networks workshop - expressions of interest sought

The Authority is hosting an Open Networks hui in Wellington on 29 June 2021. The focus of the hui is standards, and will include:
  • updates and discussions on standards development in the industry, including presentations from Westpower and WEL Networks
  • discussion on standards that were suggested at the first workshop
  • pilot, trial and investigation networking session.

IPAG meeting papers published

The agenda and minutes from IPAG’s 28th meeting, held on 19 May 2021, have now been published.
 
IPAG had the Electricity Authority’s Chair, Dr Nicki Crauford, join for part of the meeting to discuss IPAG’s history and work going forward. The IPAG also met with Contact Energy, Simply Energy, Enel X, solarZero, Transpower, and Vector to discuss IPAG’s draft recommendations memo on the Transpower DR programme.

The Authority reminds participants that it is their responsibility to register with the Authority as a participant and ensure the information they provide for registration is up-to-date.  

Please check that all information is up-to-date including contact names and details that may have changed.  

All changes and updates to the participants register may be directed in the first instance to Compliance.ElectricityAuthority@ea.govt.nz

The participant register is available here.

Failure to register or to update information is an offence under section 31 of the Electricity Industry Act 2010.
