Guidelines for raising consumer awareness of Powerswitch and Utilities Disputes - submissions published

In September 2020 the Authority consulted on draft guidelines for improving consumer awareness of Utilities Disputes and Powerswitch, and sought feedback on the guidelines.

A workshop to discuss the guidelines was held on 15 October 2020. Submissions closed on 10 November 2020 and eleven submissions were received. These submissions and workshop notes are now available on our website.

Most submissions have been supportive of the guidelines and the finalised guidelines will be similar to the version consulted on.  As a result of the feedback received the guidelines will include clarification on certain aspects as well as additional FAQs.

We will publish the updated guidelines and a decision and summary of submissions paper early in the new year.

In the meantime, if you have any questions please e-mail AwarenessofUDandPS@ea.govt.nz

Energy News and GE Digital Survey

The annual Energy News and GE Digital Electricity Survey is now open. This is your chance to reflect on the current and future issues for the sector and provide valuable industry insight.

This year the survey organisers are looking to produce a predicted forward price path for New Zealand residential and wholesale electricity, see how predictions on key sector milestones have changed, and determine where you think the sector needs to focus its attention.

The survey will take 10 minutes to complete, and you can go into the draw for an Apple Watch Series 6. Survey results will be published and available before Christmas.

Downstream 2021 programme launched

With input from the advisory panel, a topical programme has been developed for Downstream 2021 that covers the big issues such as new energy policies from the recently elected Government, energy security, market structure, decarbonisation, affordability, electrification, distributed energy and grid edge innovation.

Downstream is the annual strategic forum for New Zealand’s energy sector. It attracts high-level attendance from asset owners, investors, regulators, policy makers and local representatives from across New Zealand. The 2020 event attracted 480 attendees from almost 200 organisations.

Next year, Downstream will celebrate its 10th anniversary. Mark your diary – the two-day event will be held on 29-30 March 2021 in Lower Hutt.
