Saves and Win-backs code amendment – decision paper released
The Authority is promoting more choice for consumers and pushing for more retail competition in the electricity market by banning retailer-initiated win-backs for 180 days after a customer has switched to another retailer.
The change encourages retailers to provide all customers with the best prices and best products. Increased competition means retailers will develop new products and find new ways to reduce costs, which should flow through to the prices offered to consumers.
The change places no restrictions on consumers; they can initiate a change of retailer whenever they wish. They do not have to wait 180 days to switch between retailers.
The change comes into effect on Tuesday, 31 March 2020.

Special stress test results published
We have published the results from the special stress test that was put in place for the first quarter of 2020. A summary of results and links to raw data are available on our EMI forum.
Various asset owners planned outages of the HVDC link, Ahuroa gas storage and Pohokura gas field in quarter one 2020. Given these factors, we wanted to make sure wholesale market participants were aware of the potential for spot price volatility and were proactively managing their exposure to spot price risks. As such, a special ‘inter-island price separation’ stress test was added for quarter one 2020.
