On 22 November, the Authority hosted the Utility Regulators Forum. The Forum is a collection of predominantly Australian regulators who meet on a regular basis to discuss issues, share experiences and learn from one another.
This is the first time the Authority has hosted the Forum and it was an excellent opportunity to network and discuss opportunities and challenges.
The forum comprised presentations and panel discussions with a focus on the future, regulators’ social license and authorising environment, and putting customers at the centre of decision-making. The consistent themes were on building trust, demonstrating relevance and improving customer outcomes.
This naturally extended to a discussion about compliance and enforcement and regulators holding businesses to account on behalf of customers. There was also general agreement that we must continue to evolve, shift our thinking and try innovative approaches to solving problems.
The last session focused on organisational strategy and engagement – making sure we have the right systems and capability to engage more and with a broader audience, while at the same time avoiding engagement fatigue.
