Hedge Market Enhancements discussion paper released

The Authority is reviewing the current market making arrangements to identify problems and opportunities to design and implement a sustainable solution for the long-term benefit of consumers.

We have published a Hedge Market Enhancements (market making) discussion paper: Ensuring market making arrangements are fit-for-purpose over time. The paper lays out issues and opportunities and seeks input and engagement from industry participants to inform Authority thinking.

We want to hear from all interested parties and seek feedback on our analysis-to-date and request more information from participants to support further analysis.

This project and the discussion paper build on the previous work of the Authority, the ASX, market makers, and market participants to evolve the futures market and the market making arrangements that have supported it over the previous decade.

The discussion paper is responsive to the views of the Electricity Price Review Panel and the Government’s response.

The Authority’s Board is targeting a decision in May 2020.

The period to provide feedback closes at 5pm on Monday, 2 December 2019.

Wellington Anniversary Day (20 January 2020)

The Authority gives notice to participants that, for the purposes of the Electricity Industry Participation Code 2010 (Code), Monday, 20 January 2020 (Wellington Anniversary Day) is declared not to be a business day.
