Project update: Efficient procurement of extended reserve

During the implementation of the Efficient procurement of extended reserves (EPER) project, a number of technical and design issues arose. In October 2017, the Authority decided to pause implementing the project, to investigate and resolve these issues.

The Authority has decided it would be prudent, prior to any further implementation of the EPER scheme, to obtain the findings from the system operator’s scheduled technical requirements review (TRR). The review of the TRR will further inform the resolution of the design issues.

As part of the TRR, the system operator will contact potential extended reserve providers over the next two months. The review of the TRR is expected to take four months and will inform the technical requirements schedule (TRS). The TRS forms the basis of the design of the extended reserve scheme.

Further information on the EPER project is available on our website.

New retail reports released on the EMI website

We recently published three new reports on the Electricity Market Information (EMI) website that show insights into the degree of consumer choice in each region, and entry and exit in the retail market.

The consumer choice dashboard, drawing from the consumer choice reports, highlights increasing choice across the years.

Sign up to EMI and follow the EMI news tag if you want to be notified of changes to the website or the release of new content. Users can construct their own dashboards of report views, so updated market insights are only a click away.

The new reports are featured on the EMI homepage.

Consultation on proposed guidelines for connection and electrical connection

We have published a consultation paper on our proposed connection and electrical connection guidelines. The guidelines discuss the process and Code requirements for connecting a point of connection (POC) to a network, and the subsequent electrical connection of the POC.

Consultation on proposed amendments to enable the system operator’s Dispatch Service Enhancement project

We have published a consultation paper on proposed amendments to the Code and the Approved Systems Document that would enable the system operator’s dispatch service enhancement (DSE) project.

The proposed amendments to the Approved Systems Document would allow for the current GENCO software to be replaced as the approved system used to issue electronic dispatch instructions. We also propose additional amendments to Part 13 of the Code that would increase the benefits from adopting new communication protocols for issuing electronic dispatch instructions.

Started: 10/04/2018; Ending: 22/05/2018 5pm
