Chief Executive to leave Electricity Authority

Electricity Authority Chair Brent Layton announced today that the Authority's Chief Executive, Carl Hansen, will be leaving his role on 30 June 2018.

Mr Hansen was employed in early 2010 as CEO-designate to establish the Authority and has been its Chief Executive since the Authority was established on 1 November 2010.

Dr Layton said, “Carl has made a major contribution to the industry and the Authority over the last eight years, leading the promotion of competition, reliability and efficiency for the long-term benefit of consumers. The Board greatly regrets that he has decided to pursue other options, but wishes him all the best in his future endeavours.”

The Board will now undertake a recruitment process and expects to announce the appointment of a new Chief Executive before 30 June 2018.

Mr Hansen plans to take a holiday over July and August and then pursue a portfolio of interests, most likely in public policy areas. He said he was proud of what the organisation has achieved, but he feels that now is the right time for a new challenge.

"It's been a very enjoyable and rewarding experience leading the Authority, but now is the right time for the organisation to have a new Chief Executive to tackle the challenging work that lies ahead over the next couple of years and beyond,” he said.

“Technology change is transforming the sector, making it a very exciting time for everyone involved, and I'll be watching those developments with a great deal of interest.”
