Undesirable Trading Situation (UTS) decision paper

We have published a decision paper following the Authority Board’s decision that a UTS did not occur in relation to trading periods 35–40 on 2 June 2016.

The Authority Board has instead requested a market performance review. The review will look at trading on 2 June, as well as other similar events, and how the wholesale electricity market performed in regard to those events.

A copy of the decision paper, a copy of Electric Kiwi’s UTS claim, and a media release about our decision are available on our website.

Review of The Lines Company pricing and load control

We are undertaking a review of the distribution pricing methodology and related load control practices used by The Lines Company (TLC). The review will consider TLC’s pricing and related load control practices, the incentives they place on consumers, and the outcomes they influence. The review will also help promote long-term efficient outcomes for consumers by informing the wider industry of issues associated with implementing a peak-pricing approach, such as that used by TLC.

We expect to complete the review within six to 12 months. It will not cover aspects already addressed by previous reports on TLC’s pricing, such as the effectiveness of TLC’s communication of their pricing methodology.
