Questions on the TPM second issues paper

There have been a number of questions on the TPM second issues paper. Many of these questions relate to the Authority's modelling of charges, or the cost benefit analysis of the Authority's proposal.

We have published these questions and our responses on our website.

Note that we have removed some content that we consider to be commercially sensitive.

Call for nominations to the Security and Reliability Council

We are calling for nominations for a new member of the Security and Reliability Council (SRC). The SRC provides independent advice to the Authority on reliability of supply issues and on the performance of the electricity system and the system operator. The SRC comprises senior members of the New Zealand electricity industry including consumers. We are required to ensure that, between them, the members of the SRC have appropriate knowledge and experience of the electricity industry to provide advice to the Authority.

The Authority considers it is important that nominees for this vacancy be familiar enough with the electricity industry to contribute effectively, while being independent enough to credibly represent the interests of residential consumers.

The expected term of appointment is three years. We intend to appoint the successful nominee in September 2016.

Please email nominations and accompanying documents (as described on the nomination form) to info@ea.govt.nz, with 'Nomination for SRC membership' in the subject line, by 5pm on Tuesday, 2 August 2016.

Reminder: System operator seeks comment on National Market for Instantaneous Reserves project

The National Market for Instantaneous Reserves project has identified the need to change the way costs are allocated to generating units holding dispensations from clause 8.19(1) or (3) of the Electricity Industry Participation Code 2010.

Transpower as the system operator is seeking comment on two approaches being considered.

A short document outlining this can be found on the system operator’s website.
