Updating the national hydrological modelling dataset

We have arranged for Opus International Consultants Ltd to update the hydrological modelling dataset (to 31 December 2014) in accordance with our statutory function to undertake market-facilitation measures as specified in clause 16(1)(f) of the Electricity Industry Act 2010.

This year will see the title of the dataset change from the “Spectra update”, which it has historically been known as, to the “Hydrological modelling dataset”. This change will better communicate the data content to users looking for inflow or hydrology data.  In addition, this name change recognises that modelling tools other than Spectra are available, including the Doasa model available from the EMI website (www.emi.ea.govt.nz)

Those operators of hydro assets or flow monitoring sites where data is required will be contacted in due course to arrange access to data.

EMI website update

The Authority’s EMI website has a new look and some functionality improvements. A new report format is included in the changes – table reports. Two table reports are presented that highlight changes in retail market share and switching activity in a way that allows users to quickly find information for a specific region or retailer (e.g. www.emi.ea.govt.nz/r/ke12c). These reports are similar to reports that remained on our older reporting website reports.ea.govt.nz. This old website is now fully obsolete and will be taken down in the coming weeks. All data released by the Authority now comes through the EMI website and associated FTP site.

Authority website update: Consumer area enhanced

www.ea.govt.nz includes a dedicated section for electricity consumers. This section has recently been upgraded.

The enhanced consumer section aims to provide clear answers to the questions the Authority commonly receives from consumers and then guide consumers through to further information about the Authority’s work and the electricity market’s performance through an graphical feature.

The consumer section has been developed to meet all web accessibility standards and is written for a reading age of 12. Thank you to those members of the industry who have provided input into this development. The consumer section of the website will continue to be developed and suggestions for additional content are welcome, please email communications@ea.govt.nz

Reconciliation participant forum

We will hold a reconciliation participant forum at Cliftons, 100 Willis Street, Wellington on 23 June 2015, starting at 9.00 am.

The forum includes a workshop session to discuss operational issues and problems. Participants may suggest additional topics to be included in discussion.

If you are interested in attending the forum, please email your name, contact details and any additional topic requests to marketoperations@ea.govt.nz with ‘June 2015 reconciliation participant forum’ in the subject line. Please note that the venue size means we may have to limit the number of people per organisation who can attend.
