Submissions published: Improving transmission loss modelling in SPD

The Authority considers that more accurately modelling of transmission losses when dispatching and pricing generation in the wholesale market would promote its statutory objective by improving competition between generators and operational efficiency in the electricity industry for the long-term benefit of consumers. More accurate modelling of transmission losses would allow the system operator to more accurately determine the cheapest generation options.

The Authority has published submissions it received on a proposal to increase the number of segments used by the system operator to estimate losses on AC transmission lines.

Connection of distributed generation under Parts 1 and 2 of Schedule 6.1 of the Code

The processes for connecting distributed generation to a local network are set out in Part 6 of the Code. From 23 February 2015, Part 6 will include:

  • a new Part 1A of Schedule 6.1 that provides for a simpler process for distributed generators seeking to connect small-scale distributed generation (SSDG)
  • revised processes for connecting distributed generation under Parts 1 and 2 of Schedule 6.1 to add clarity and address a wider range of relevant matters than anticipated when these processes were first introduced in 2007.

On 16 December 2014, the Authority published a guideline to help distributed generators and distributors to understand and apply the requirements of the revised Part 6 related to SSDG under Parts 1 and 1A of Schedule 6.1. The Authority has since developed a further guideline to assist understanding and application of the revised processes for connecting distributed generation under Part 2 of Schedule 6.1.
