Amendments to AUFLS exemptions

 
 
The Authority has granted and gazetted amendments to six exemptions relating to the requirements for providing automatic under-frequency load shedding. In September 2012 the Authority granted each of the six participants listed below an exemption from clause 8.19(5) of the Electricity Industry Participation Code 2010 (Code) and clauses 7(1), 7(8) and 7(9) of Technical Code B of Schedule 8.3 of the Code. The expiry date for each exemption has been extended to a date specified by the system operator in the extended reserve schedule under clause 8.54O of the Code. 
  • Norske Skog Tasman Limited - exemption No. 152, which applies to grid exit points KAW0112 and KAW0113
  • Northpower Limited - exemption No. 153, which applies to BRB0331
  • Winstone Pulp International Limited - exemption No. 154, which applies to TNG0111
  • Pan Pac Forest Products Limited - exemption No. 155, which applies to WHI0111
  • New Zealand Railways Corporation Limited - exemption No. 156, which applies to BPE0551, TNG0551, TMN0551 and HAM0551. This has also been amended to include two new grid exit points, PEN0251 and SWN0251.
  • New Zealand Steel Limited - exemption No. 157, which applies to GLN0331 and GLN0332.
The Authority has published the full Gazette notices, including reasons for the approval of each, on the exemptions page of its website. The amendments come into force on 7 August 2014.

Information paper on interim arrangements for inter-island reserve sharing: feedback published

 
 

The Authority has published feedback on the information paper outlining the Authority’s intention to increase the quantity of reserve shared between the North and South Islands. This change takes partial advantage of increased reserve sharing on the HVDC transmission link and is part of the Authority’s project to implement a national reserve market.

Failure to register or to update information is an offence under section 31 of the Electricity Industry Act 2010.
