Consultation about access to consumption data

The Authority is seeking feedback on its proposal to amend the Electricity Industry Participation Code 2010 (Code) to require retailers to provide consumers with access to consumption data in a standard format. The objective of the proposed amendment is to promote retail market competition by facilitating consumer participation. The Authority considers that effective competition requires engaged consumers, and access to information such as the detailed consumption data available from smart meters would encourage more engagement from customers. The Authority is concerned that existing arrangements for access to consumption data are patchy and are limiting consumers’ ability to effectively make electricity decisions.

The Authority has published a consultation paper on access to consumption data that proposes amending the Code.
The Authority invites submissions on the consultation paper by 5pm on Tuesday, 26 August 2014.

Responses are invited by Friday 8 August 2014.
