The Authority has now completed a review of the alignment of electricity retailers' contracts against voluntary model domestic retail contracting minimum terms and conditions published by the Authority. Although retailers’ alignment in some areas was pleasing, most retailers can improve.
Three retailers, TrustPower, Genesis Energy and Powershop, have substantively amended their domestic electricity retail contracts in line with the minimum terms and conditions over the past 12 months. These retailers now have full or substantial alignment with between 89% and 99% of the applicable minimum terms and conditions.
The Authority expects a greater level of alignment by other retailers in the next review (scheduled for 1 July 2012).
Nine retailers have advised the Authority they either are currently in the process of amending their contracts towards a greater level of alignment, or are intending to make amendments soon (with two of the retailers intending to roll out their contractual amendments by the end of 2011). The Authority intends publishing retailers’ individual results arising from the 2012 review.
