The Authority is consulting on a proposal to amend the Electricity Industry Act 2010. The proposal is to amend the Act to enable the Authority to collect fees from participants as well as levies. The intention is that the collection of any fees would result in a corresponding reduction in the amount collected through the levy. The proposed amendment would only enable, not require, fees to be collected.
If the proposed amendment progresses, there will be an opportunity to provide input into the Amendment Bill through the usual Select Committee process. If the Amendment Bill is passed and it is decided that fees should be collected, there would be further consultation before any fee regulations could be made, and the levy regulations amended.
